will shorty or mid length headers fit on stock?

hey, so ive got a 1989 f250 and its needed the exhaust manifolds replaced since i bought the the truck cause they're leaking. been looking at the prices for headers and exhaust manifolds and found headers cheaper. i would like to get full length but i dont have the tools or knowledge to make them fit (its a 4x4 truck) but ive read a little bit that shortys will bit no problem. was wondering if this is true and whos tried it and if mid lengths will work also?

Shorties are a direct bolt on to the heads and Y pipe but make sure you get some specifically made for a HD truck so it has all the correct emissions connections, headers for a 1/2 ton won't have what you need.

No they definitely won't work. I think you need a kit with a matching mid pipe like this..

I thought "they" made long tubes for 4x4...or is the big block too wide for that?

This example fits the previous generation; is it really that much different than the 89? Maybe someone knows what is in the way and maybe it's easy to fix.

EFI heads have different exhaust ports and stud locations than carbed (through 1987 model year)

I'm glad you knew! Thank you. That answers that.

Since this is the case, and since you are going for true duals anyway, If I were you I would go for the midlength ones if it's all being done at the same time. The longer tubes seem to consistently gain the most of what a truck wants in the power band.

If you have to do it in stages, go shorty, connect it to the factory exhaust, and then when you upgrade the rest of the system you will gain the most benefit from the upgrade. I did not notice very much difference with stock exhaust on new headers in my one experience in doing this in a Catalytic Converter equipped vehicle.

i would love to get long tubes but lack the experience and skill to get them put in so im wanting to go with either mid length or shortys than i can then have a true dual exhaust, anyone got a link of ones that will fit, my budget is about $300 for headers
