So, my question is: What headers work best in a 1956 with an LSX engine and C4 Corvette suspension(Flat Out Engineering)?
Any pics, thoughts, experience with this would be great!!

What style header are you looking to use?

 

I'd like to use full length headers that come down just below the frame. My understanding is the left side is very tight with the steering and the header should hug the engine as much as possible. Stainless steel or something "pretty" would be nice.

 

ultimate headers is full length can do customs, stainless with a pretty flange

 

The ultimate headers are definitely nice, but a little more than I want to spend. Also, the full length ones don't go down low enough to clear below my frame. I will have to keep looking. The easiest would definitely be block huggers, but don't perform or look quite as nice.

 

You may have to build your own, I don't think anything you find will come with a not-so-outrageous price tag. I've built a few sets of headers, it's mind numbing and tedious, but once it's done it's done.

 

i would have to agree with 89F2urd i was looking everywhere to fit my frame engine combo with no luck so i had to make my own or do a custom/higher end headers i don't have the time so i went with a higher end

 

I went to Sanderson Headers. Used a mid length header that was as close to the block as possible. Don't remember the number though. They were great to deal with. My truck, '53 with a 350 Chev. and the C4/Flat out kit. It will be tight for the steering though but doable.

 

So I found my bill for the headers. They are CC17 by Sanderson Street Rod Headers. They are a mid length unit.

 

Thanks, Marten. Looks like I'll have to go this route as well, just with the LS header instead, like the LS158 or CSLS158. You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the left side with the steering shaft in relation to the header would you?

Here is a picture of the way it is today. I don't have the steering shaft in yet but do have the parts. It will take 3 u-joints to attach to the steering column. One at the column, one at the rack and pinion and one close to the frame about 6" from the rack. The wooden stick represents where the steering shaft will go. Because of the 3 u-joints you will also need a special heim joint to hold the shaft up.

 

Just hose clamp that wooden stick in place.

 

That should be plenty strong. I've been looking at the Sanderson headers and will need to contact them with better dimensions. The ones on their site aren't great.


This is approximately where I would like the steering to be. It doesn't leave a lot of room.
