My '86 6.9IDI has electrical gremlins. I've done grounds and more grounds, new V-regs after new V-regs. I'm done. One way or another, I'm doing a GM 1 wire.
He has a 7.3 which has the vacuum pump located on the driver's side of the engine. And the vacuum is needed for the power brakes and factory cruise control

if you use hydraboost, you do not need the engine mount vacuum pump. you can get by with a small e-pump. and since the rancheroo uses cable heat controls, he does not even need that.

^^ CORRECT. I will be using a Mojave aftermarket heater, no ac.
this build does not suck!!! so no need for vacuum.
the alternator is a GM 1 wire I found for 75 bucks. 160A
ive had great luck with GM alternators, I put them on everything.
minus my 87 and my SD
I can get these things SOAKED. and they still keep doing their job.
a 3G is a great alternator, but the powermaster 3g I have in my 87 cost me 260ish bucks, and I think its on the outs.
I have a serp system on that rig, so a GM alt is out of the question.

I have hydroboost.
V belt 7.3 has a suck pump on the passenger side until 92.5-ish
serp system 92.5-94.5 have the suck pump on drivers side.
both systems can be used on the 6.9/7.3 without any modifications.

theres really nothing to talk about regarding the ALT mount.
as its bolted into one f the lower holes and spaced correctly for v-belts.
neither the PSP or the ALT has tensioners right now.

sadly, this project is going to be thrown out of the shop on Friday.
ive been too 1 track minded.
boating season is upon us.
and ive spent the last few days working on my flatty while waiting for exhaust to be delivered.
definitely not going to be able to get it running.
but I hope to finish the exhaust and the front end fab work.
we had a good stretch! and I got this project real close!!!
but the time has come to take a break, and accumulate more parts.
hope to get my exhaust in today.
well see how close I get!

the weather is getting warmer and I need to be on the water.
but the exhaust did come in today,
so I went ahead and built one side.
its not what I wanted, but its what I got

boats are ok, but you need the diesel rancharoo to pull the boat to the water.
get back to fabricating on the rancher and leave the dang boats until you are done!!!!

cannot do that!
the woman wants A boat done.
we are water folk!
she don't take much interest in my projects other than the fact that she lets me
do what I want.
so when she shows the slightest interest, I jump on it.
she is my queen and she gets what she wants....
fuel tank straps should be here tomorrow, and it will get thrown back together.
no mods need to be done, just a simple bolt on operation.
no one can deny a sunset with a beautiful woman, on the water with a joint and a few beers.
remember we have 4 kids, and we need time away too lol

ive had the ranchero for over a decade, its not going anywhere.

I had plans on helping a buddy finish a chop on a 56 linclon on Friday, but that got pushed back a week, so I still have time.

I need oil lines, drain lines, a new water inlet, and some other minor stuff.
shell get done...

I believe the proper nomenclature is "Manchero".....

(Or would it be "Raunchero"?.....)

I have given this project many many affectionate names lol

I also have an IDI, a FE, and 2 PSD's that are capable of towing this boat.
either way, it will always be behind a
especially while it has a chevy engine in it!

what I NEED to do is get these 2 projects done....
and paint them the same scheme

And I'll bet the woman has given it one or two UNaffectionate names....

Question is, what names have the two little shop rats have given it (other than "truck truck")?

she don't mind me workin at all.
as long as I come in for dinner, and do the dishes after, she lets me build.
but every time I tell her "im not getting any more projects" she laughs her a$$ off
and every time I show her something cheap she reminds me of what I said.

shes told me, "as long as things are taken care of and the front of the house don't look like crap, its allll good.
shell even come out and read her book in the shop when she can.

the kids arnt allowed in the shop yet.
they listen like 2 year olds LOL
we go for "walks to the shop, but that's about it.
soon they will be into it, when I let them

As for the alternators, i bought a 3g at the JY, $17 has gone over 40k. On my 92 the alt went out, had it rebuilt by a very reputable shop, regulator went out about 15k later, pulled the regulator out of another 3g i have (off a 351) and good to go. Moral is, for $17 i can by alot of alternators that apparently arent junk.

ok, that took me a while, but i have the boat dialed, registered, and ready for the summer.
i forgot how fun this thing is. one of a kind circle v-drive flat bottom.
turns like a goddamn slot car
i love it.

been waiting for my T-4 to 3" pipe flanges, these things are super nice!
don't judge me on the turbo mount, its still gotta be hogged out more.
but the drivers side is done and ready for oil feed and return.
