Is oil really not prefiltered?
I was doing some research on extended oil changes and reading information on filters and came upon several people saying not to fill up the new oil filter with oil because its not filtered. Now as long as i have ever been doing oil changes i have always prefilled any filter i could, presoaked catridge filters, even filled upside down filters enough to get the elements wet. I always thought oil was filtered before it went into the bottle. Is that not correct?
Im planning on trying some Redline 15w40 with a donoaldson ELF7045 and going 10k miles with it. Im going to send out a sample of my 6k rotella t6 that I'm draining now then use the redline for 10k, drain then test the next batch at 10k if the engine seems to run ok with it. I know the ester oil can cause false numbers from cleaning softeft metal deposits so i wanted to wait.

I always changed my diesel oil every 5k, my last filter was black i just read the odometer i sharpied on there last oil change wrong and realized i was 1k over yesterday haha. I want to try the redline oil because of how great their driveline oils are but i want it to last 10k because its about $250 for oil

I pre oil the filter for my PSD's. I've heard from a guy I used to work with said not to because the oil isn't filtered. I'd rather not have the truck run for however long with no oil in it. How dirty is the oil in the bottle really? You're still pouring it in your truck. Just my $0.02.

Yeah i read it too but pouring into crankcase is it pumped into the filter first before bearings so that made sense to me, i just always thought oil was filtered first? i mean it does get poured over the lifters, cams and sometimes crank when filled on many vehicles, its just not pressurized to bearings in doing that.
My thinking was also there is a bypass in oil cooler to bypass unfiltered oil on cold start up anyway and that the thought with that is unfiltered oil is better than no oil which is my reasonining behind always filling filters. The less time your bearing surfaces are under oiled the longer the bearings should last.
always wet elements on everything, even fuel filters.

Oh yeah any LS series engine. Their hydraulic lifters can take up like .080" slack or something so they are loud when they arent pumped up
