Have you checked your coolant level? Might be low and not getting much to the heater core.

You need a scan tool to monitor live data from the ECM, with that you can see Engine Coolant Temperature which should be about 190'F if your thermostat is functional.

Sounds like your thermostat needs to be replaced.

There is also a vacuum actuated valve on the heater core feed line (coolant) which runs the length of the passenger side valve cover - it has to open to allow heat (coolant) into the cab heater core.

If you start the truck and the heater controls default to "Defrost" then you have a vacuum leak that you'll need to find.

Speaking of scan tool that reads real time data, which do you recommend? I have the X4, but it does not read real time, it only reads codes.

I have an iPhone so I use ODBLINK MX WiFi as it can read and clear codes, log realtime data, graph data, provide digital and analog gages, accept custom PIDs and math for the calculations, gages have Min/Max and Alarms.

For Android there are lots of folks using Torque with a decent BluTooth dongle.

This is SPOT ON!!! Exactly what I was thinking.

I was a huge fan of the ScanGauge 2 until I recently downloaded the Torque PRO app.

But the ScanGauge 2 is still a good option.
