Degree a stock '79 460 cam !?!?!

Does anyone have the stock specs to degree a factory camshaft in a '79 460?

Mainly I need the 'Degree of intake center-line' but would appreciate anything you've got.

I'm changing out the original timing chain of my stock 460 in my 1979. It has finally jumped time and I know it has never been changed, so it still had the plastic coated cam gear. I've heard over and over to advance the camshaft timing, don't know how much, but I'd really like to degree it while I have the chance. I've looked in my old Motor manual and it doesn't have any cam timing specs other than straight up.

I have no plans to change the cam out, just in case that is your suggestion. If I can't find anything, I'll just time it to 0degrees, straight up.

Thank you in advance.

Maybe 110deg intake center line?
Would any of you have a suggestion as to go slightly higher or lower?

From what I understand I'd want to go slightly lower for more low end torque,
and slightly higher than 110 degrees for more upper rpm.
Is that correct?

You have a factory retarded smog timing chain, which is 4* retard. All the post '73 timing chains are the smog sets. If you want to have the cam timed at 0* you'll need a timing chain from a '72 and eariler engine or just buy a racing set from summit or jegs. Not sure if this was the answer you were looking for.

Thank you for the response.
I'm mainly looking for alternatives to just timing at 0*. I've torn into it now and just found a thoroughly stretched out factory timing chain and worn gears with the obvious retarded crank sprocket. I have a degree wheel and wanted to check out everything. And degree it in as close as possible to maybe get some good low end torque, raise it's efficiency, etc. For now I'm thinking of going as close as possible to a 110* intake centerline, at least until I hear any other discussion.

Put a 1988 or later timing set in they are straight up. Usually the FSM have the cam specs.

With a stock cam, the retarded as OEM or straight up are probably the best options.

Degreeing this will be a good exercise, but you won't be able to do much with the info unless you want to change the cam.

COMP Cams® - Sorry...
