help with hub-centric spacers on my 04 dually
ok so i've searched and searched and what i've come up with is about 50/50, and i'm not sure why. so, of course non hub-centric spacers slide right on with no issues.
no, hub-centric is where i run into an issue, because of the little lip on the spacer. it won't slide on the hub all the way because of the little lip on the hub that prevents it from doing so. now what i meant by 50/50 is, half of the people i've talked to said their HC spacers slide right past that lip. the other half say they either gotta pull the inner part of the axle out, which would mean fluid will leak out in the process etc, or iv'e read that some people grind the little lip down so the spacer slides over.
first i'm kinda curious why HC spacers slide over that lip for some people, and some it doesn't.
next, regardless of the answer for the question above, my HC spacers won't make it past that lip on the rear of my 04 dually. i have non HC on there now, but i've been meaning to change it, i ran them for way too long, should have never even used non HC (guy sent them first on accident), but either way, i'm wanting to finally put the correct HC ones on so my outer rear wheel is 100% centered on the hub again.
i don't really wanna take the axle out, because even if i did do that, i don't want to have to do that every time i rotate or change tires, etc.
i started to grind it down a bit, but i stopped. wanted input from you guys first, hopefully someone that's been in this scenario before.
any issues grinding it a little? just paint the bare metal after? any pointers on how to do this, or just use a grinding wheel and go at it until the spacer slides on?
also on a side note, since i took some of the bolts out so i wouldn't damage the head of the bolt with the grinder (3rd pic below), what should they be torqued back to?
(i only took a few bolts out at a time so they were out of the way)
thanks!!
oh btw, if grinding this lip will cause the outer wheel to not center properly if i ever stop using spacers, that's fine, because i'm either going to A) always use the spacers with the stock wheels and wider tires, or B) get aftermarket wheels with the proper offset/backspacing so i can eliminate the spacers, and as far as i know, most if not all aftermarket wheels are lug-centric, i think.
