Here's another picture; a bit of a panorama. Looks even more daunting.

Just south of Castle Rock State Park on Highway 35.

Nothing a few Popsicle sticks and glue won't fix. Used to build bridges all the time when I was a kid.

BANANA SLUG!!

Back in '97 IIRC, Pescadero Canyon in Pebble Beach's Del Monte Forest washed out Carmel Way just inside the Carmel Gate. It looked a lot like that, big and wide.

The new culvert and road were up within 6 months.

All it takes is money and for the bureaucracy to get out of the way.

Money no problem, bureaucracy to get out of the way? Fat chance.

Surprised the hell out of me when it happened at Pebble. That place is under tremendous scrutiny at all times and it seems like every government agency (even the illegal ones like the Coastal Commission) likes to grab them by the short hairs and bully them because they have the power.

Actually, there does not seem to have been and water flowing through there. It was actually a kind of level stretch of road, and "someone" had built stockpile curbs on both sides of the road. As a result, the short stretch of highway became a kind of percolation pond. The underlying soil was porous, and it just became water logged and whoooop! All gone. There is a seasonal creek about a 1/4 mile to the south (Deer Creek).

This will be interesting to watch. We know a couple hundred people that live on the other side, and their options for getting to the valley have become very limited.
