Help with fender id...
It has been my understanding that the fenders for the 1/2 ton panel truck are the same from 38-47. I also know that the fenders change as the truck gets larger, i,e. 3/4, 1 and 1.5 ton. Can't seem to confirm this in the parts book. Any of you guys know for sure?
thanks.
thanks.

Pretty sure the 1 tons would be the same as the 1/2 tons, is the 1.5 tons that they got larger for the larger tire size.
I bet if you look in the book at tire sizes, instead of fender size, you will see when they made the fender wheel openings larger.
But I have a 1951 F5 1.5 ton and it has the larger wheel well opening and 20" tires.

You've not said front or rear. I'll assume you are after the 1/2 ton "Commercial" model, so the fronts are alike 38-39, 40-41, and 42-47. The rears are alike 38-41, and 42-47. The tonner has larger wheel openings and different numbers both front and rear, same year breakdowns. Interesting the book even lists the DRW fenders for the big panel trucks.
Edit - on a 51 F-5 the front fenders are alike F-2 to F-6. Stu

Yes I am talking about the rear fenders, sorry about that. Several years back I did a lot of research at the Benson Ford Research center on panel trucks where I learned a lot about the panel portions of those vehicles. I bought over 850 photos showing details of the insides and outside of the trucks including some pickups, trucks and COE stuff from 39 to 41. I agree, some of the photos show the various changes in fenders due to the size of the truck but I cannot find number for the fenders in my literature.

The numbers are listed in the 16000 section of the green book. I looked too in the 1944-1952 body book but nothing is shown there for rear fenders. Which I guess is understandable since they are in the green book. If you need the part numbers please say.
Interesting that you had luck doing research at the Benson Ford Research Library. I spent most of a day there going through trays of microfiche looking for exhaust routing diagrams on my 215 six cylinder M-H. Found nothing. I guess I shouldn't have expected them to have M-H data, but they didn't even have the diagrams or bend codes for a stock 2wd 215 truck. I was real disappointed. Stu

Interesting thing I learned while at the Benson Ford center. James K. Wagner volunteers there one day a week, or at least did at the time of my visit. I wish he had been there that day, I'd have loved to meet him. For those who don't know the name, he is author of the book Ford Trucks Since 1905, and is in addition the Commercial Vehicle tech advisor to the EFV8 Club. Stu

Did I not say it clearly? There are numbers for "Commercials with Panel Body" 42-47, and for "Trucks with Panel Body" 42-47. Which model are you needing numbers for? The "Trucks with Panel Body" must be for both the 122" tonner and 134" 1.5 ton because no other panel breakdown is listed besides the DRW option. Stu
