lights out

Sooooo I was driving to work today and noticed that the lights in my Tach that show you what gear you are in were gone, the light that illuminates for the tow mode will still come on but the gear lights are MIA
Any ideas???? from anyone out there?
I'm 8000 miles in and have had not the first problem so I feel I should be lucky, but still a little confused as to where they went

Put the truck in gear and press the + button on the shifter. + turns the gears on and - turns them off. You must have pressed the - button without knowing it.

The +/- buttons on the stalk are gear lockouts. You'll see them.

Owner's manual; Table of Contents; Section labeled "Transmission". As easy as 1,2,3.

Think of when you're trucking your trailer up a moderate sized hill and the truck keeps shifting between 6th and 5th gears. Some people find this annoying and use the - button to shift the transmission into 5th gear and stay there. In that scenario the truck will use only gears 1 - 5 and you will have locked out 6th gear.

The truck is loaded with these kinds of little easter eggs. Just wait until you see a PAUSE screen pop up over the top of everything and you can't figure out how to get it to go away...

I was going to wait until you posted your question so I would be called brilliant a genius again. There is a feature on the trip A & B computers that allows you to pause mileage accumulating when you're driving off-the-clock so to speak. Lots of people use the trip mileage to record reimbursable or tax-deductible mileage. But if you have to run a personal errand, you can pause the trip A or B and accumulation will stop until un-paused. I forget the button that toggles it off the top of my head as I never used it.

I mainly use the manual shifting for downshifting with the exhaust brake engaged. Works wonders for bringing heavy loads to a stop.
