Power steering pump questions

Replacing my radiator core support on my 1997 f350 soon, while I have the front end apart I'm thinking about replacing my ps pump lines which are really rusty but not leaking yet. Can I just pull those couple lines off and put new ones on? Do I need to bleed the system? If so how to? Do I need to use thread locker or any other type of sealant? Any advise appreciated never replaced them before. Thanks Kyle

Kyle, When I changed mine it was unbolt , replace, top off ,start up. It will purge the air just top off again. Was not a big deal. Did not use any type of locker or sealant. Been a few yr. ago and no problems.

Like Buddy said but make sure that little white gasket is on the end of the high pressure hose that goes into the side of the pump.

Ford spec'd ATF instead of power steering fluid. I blew a hose awhile back and put PS fluid in during a roadside repair and keep forgetting to change it to ATF. So far nothing bad has happened but I'm sure the ATF has some advantage to it.

Change the lines, including the metal cooler lines. Mine went with no warning; luckily I was going uphill when "Whaaaa? Where did my power assist go?" Slow down, plan for the curves, two arms to haul the wheel from side to side. Not a fun day.

Those original metal lines will be weak from metal fatigue. Mine broke off right at the pump fitting. Not something you want experience first hand.
