460 timing

I have been told that the 460 cam timing is retarded about 12deg.at the crank. Can this be set to straight up timing,0 at the crank, and will it still run good.also can someone recommend,a good everyday driver camshaft.I have a 1994 F250, 4x4, e40d,and the 460.The engine is stock, the only mod.is a ok&n air filter. Thanks for any help.

The timing on your motor is already at 0 timing, or straight up timing. IMHO the stock cam for that motor is the best everyday driver, and if that is all you're looking for, then it isn't worth doing a cam swap. If you have a K&N, make sure you keep it clean, and not over oiled. I went back to regular paper elements, because I wasn't cleaning my K&N enough.

I have a 93 460 5 speed and been wanting to warm it up a bit. From what I've read the exhaust ports are terrible on these motors. I found this cam https://m.summitracing.com/search?keyword=Crn%20353901 but I haven't bought it yet. Has a lot more exhaust lift and duration than the intake side, and says it's computer compatible. That and headers should wake it up I would think.

A new cam will not help the exhaust port situation. You might wake it up a little bit. Even though it says it is computer friendly, I would be cautious and ask someone who has used those type of cams in that setup.
