2001 F350 V10 (6.8L) Random Overdrive light flashing/Check Engine Light
I have a 2001 F350 with 171,000 miles on it. Ford Remain transmission was installed at 140,000 miles. Overdrive light randomly flashes and sometimes the Check engine light comes on. Pull codes and it is the OSS sensor (P0720). And occasionally VSS (P0722). I replaced both of these sensors.
I check Mode 6 for misfires and it showed random misfires on cylinder 3, 1, 4, and 7. It is never consistent, and it always reads 65 misfires. I went ahead and replaced plugs and coils since it never had been done before. Plugs looked surprisingly well and coils resistance check out fine, 0.5 ohms and 5500 ohms.
Drove it this morning and the OD light started blinking again. It seems to only happen when I come to a complete stop and then take off. Transmission seems to perform fine and as soon as I get up to speed the OD light stops blinking. I am noticing it might happen more often when it has rained or when moisture is present.
Getting frustrated, and feel as though I have done my homework on this, I really thought the tune up would fix this problem. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

On my dads 03' excessive detonation caused the OD light to blink and it stored a misfire code.(detonation was fuel related) Makes me wonder if your fuel could be contaminated, possibly with some phase separation at the bottom of the tank. Cold temps (especially below freezing) tend to make it worse. It would not hurt to get some HEET water remover/antifreeze to dose the tank to see if that helps. Sometimes the fuel filter can hold some water if you are careful not to spill what is in the filter when you remove it. I am assuming your air filter and fuel filter are good and your MAF sensor is fairly clean. I'd be interested in what your fuel pressure is doing if the above check out ok.
You already threw some money at the truck with the the cols and plugs, rule out the cheap simple stuff first.

"Dkf" I just replaced the fuel filter less than 500 miles ago during my last oil change. And I add HEET throughout the winter. Just added another bottle this morning. I blew the air filter out the last oil change as well. I will have to look at the MAF sensor just to check.
It has never thrown a misfire code.
Thanks for the reply fellas.

Do you have any water on the floor under the fuse panel? A windshield leak will actually run all the way down into the fuse panel under the steering wheel, and cause things like what you're describing.
