2006 5.4 what to do??
Hey guys I'm brand new here and looking for some advise. I have a 2006 ecsb 5.4. As we all know, not the most desirable superduty power plant. My question is this, I have done a lot of work to the truck to get where it is today. I came from a 7.3! I drive the truck about 7-8000 miles a year and do some snow plowing with it when winter comes around here. What can I do to help liven up this truck? I would rather sell and get another diesel but 35k or more for something I never drive seems foolish. Thanks

It's not so much about speed but the truck just feels pretty weak in acceleration. I have seen of the elusive supercharger but I think I would rather keep that $5000 for a future truck. But I'm saying under $1500.

I am going to second the 5Star tuning. Lots of guys have used the 5Star tuning and are pretty happy with the results. I am sure if you gave the guys st 5Star a call and tell them what your doing with the truck, and what you would like to get out of it, they can come up with a tuning strategy that will help make the truck have a little more git up and go.
IMHO that is going to be the most economical route to go unless you want to get into actually doing gear and engine improvements via upgraded parts.
I would give the 5 Star guys a call and see what they can do from you and go from there

I use the performance tune; has a really quick throttle response and good shifting. I think I described it as "peppy" in a previous thread. Without it, it felt like the truck had a wind up rubber band engine (in all fairness, I carry 2,000 lbs between my plow and ballast and junk).

Your truck looks very clean I wouldn't drop that and pickup another truck.
Although I love my Diesels and can't see owning anything other than that I just really like the looks of your truck. Do what the guys here are saying and get yourself 5star tuning.
If you were going to drive the truck more and pull heavy then I would steer you out of gas and into PS Diesel. That is not your case so no need to sell yours.

it's not that my truck won't do what i ask it's just that it doesn't do it very fast and when it does it's not very enjoyable not looking for a race truck but would love to get a little bit more performance out of it as to reduce the itch to buy a new 6.7
also I'm currently running to 65's on factory wheels looking to put on a set of 20 x 10's with 33's on there is the recommendation still 410s or possibly a higher gear ratio ??

well first before you call 5star i would be doing any maintenance that the truck needs like plugs and fuel filter and air filter checking fluids and belt. to check to see what type of gears you have look at the door sticker. just google ford axle codes click on the first link and find your axle code to see what gears you have for example my axle code is C2 and on the chart it says that i have 4.10 gears with a dana 60 and limited slip diff
