Idi Turbo kit value

I found a first generation banks turbo kit locally through the grapevine and was curious what you guys thought it was worth?

It's 100% complete and also comes with a spare turbo, intake hat and van turbo pedestal even though it's a truck kit. It's for a standard tranny.

Both turbos have little to no shaft play side to side, absolutely zero end to end play. Neither show to be pushing oil out the charge side so I'm assuming the seals are good. Even has 90% of the bolts!!

I'm thinking about picking it up but don't wanna get screwed. He's asking 750 so I assumed with the spare turbo it was a deal. Even if I don't end up putting it on and go a different route I'm sure I could maybe get close to my money back

The only thing I can tell it needs is the big air filter for the giant banks labeled air box. I'd much rather just go with a different styled setup anyways with a big paper filter or something.

First gen kits are quite a bit less desirable. 400-500 for a complete kit, I'd give 600 for his with the extra turbo. Doesn't add a lot of value to me because those parts individually are rather useless. 650 at the absolute most, sometimes kits are few and far between.

The air box can be cut down and useca different filter. Try to get it cheaper but even at 750 for a complete system is not bad. I running a first gen you are back as icky get 2 turbos for that ptice

750 is a good price, for everything you are getting. $500 is a better price.
some people do not like the non wastegated units.
i prefer them.

the fact that you are getting an extra turbo, intake hat, and van pedestal, is a very good part, because you will be able to sell that for close to the cost of what you are paying for the system you are going to use for the truck, making this turbo close to free installed on the truck.

exactly. those pedestals alone sometimes sell for as much as a full truck kit.

Post pics. If you have the van turbo pedestal, you might have a full van turbo kit. If you have a "van" kit, then it's worth A LOT more than what these guys are quoting.

$500-$800. I sold one recently for either $500 or $600, I forget. It was for a slushbox though. Manual trans pedestals are worth more, puts it towards top end of price range depending on completeness. Van kits are worth more as well, maybe over $800 but you'll likely sit on it for a while as there are far fewer van guys.

It's definitely a truck kit as it's still installed I asked if he had any more van parts but he said just the turbo, pedestal, hat and intake elbow. I'm tempted to buy it because everyone on Craig's list is asking 900 and I'll never pay that much. I got him down to 650 but offered him 575 and I pull it. He jumped and I brought the parts home. Little dirty but all there.. I sure feel good getting an extra turbo.

Maybe one of the days I'll put the van specific stuff on fleabay.

Don't put it on ebay. There a half-dozen guys in this exact forum that have a NA IDI van and want a turbo. Even half the parts of a van kit means that much less custom fabrication.

This place is your best bet to sell that partial van turbo kit.

if I were you, I would really post detailed pictures of this kit.
you can easily sell this kit if half of the van parts are there,
which I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you to do,
the van freaks are a special breed, and will come out of pocket.

please help out some poor unfortunate van owner.
you can most likely flip this for a better turbo for your truck.
its highly likely someone has a complete truck kit they cant use.

you found the hens teeth, now turn it into a golden egg.

And yeah, IDI Van guys are exceptionally special and unfortunate. Take pity on us. We dream of boost on the highways of valhalla.

I was able to install the turbo kit today. With my pump maxed I was making ten pounds of boost at wot, 12 on hills. To be honest I'm not all that impressed so I took it back off and am going to consider a better route. The power gains weren't as much as I expected....

I will definitely sort the vans parts and post them up eventually. May have even found a line on a set of van hotpipes.
