Center caps for 5x8 budd wheels

I'm looking to put center caps on my budd wheels. I don't know if there is anything out there that fits or do I need to fabricate something. The 1933 hubcap fits the 5 7/8" hole but the outside diameter is 6 7/8" and hits the lug nuts. I like the looks of the 33 hubcap and might attempt to shrink it. But would like to see if anyone knows of something that fits.

Phillip, I used '34-'38 truck hubcaps on mine. The front s screw in in place of the center bearing cap. I did have to make an adapter as they are too short on the thread side to reach the hub threads. The rear hubcaps are held on with two flathead screws that screw into the axle jack screw heads. On the earlier trucks, the jack screws were drilled and tapped for the hubcap screws.

Thanks. Does Mac's auto parts or Early Ford store sell them? I'll look around and see if I can find some.

I don't believe anyone reproduces the truck caps. Mine are all originals I picked up at swap meets.

Early Ford Store has TONS of used parts. Originally some of these parts were at Valley Ford Obsolete (North Hollywood), some were at Harold Looney's obsolete parts store in Stanton.

Looney (that's his real name!) bought out Valley Obsolete, moved the parts to Stanton. Then he sold out to his partner who then opened Early Ford Store in San Dimas (located in the original 1916 Ford dealership).

Just located a pair on eBay. I see how they're made now.

Bling for the budds

Please excuse the rust. I'll tackle that next.

Very nice. What do you use to remove the chrome nut covers? I got some from Iowa 80 and they won't come off.

So far I've just pushed them on and very carefully pried one back off. I may try a dab of antisieze inside them to see if that helps. Also, would it be necessary to remove them if I used a larger 1 9/16 six point socket on them?

You might be able to save them if you removed and installed them by hand, but I think using the big impact wrench would ruin them. The torque required for those nuts is 450± ft lbs.

I'll try the antisieze and make sure the nut flats are smooth and rust free see how that works. These covers have three large dimples that grab the nut.

Yep. I'll try the anti-seize too if I can get them off without destroying them. The rear ones are very tight too.

Bob, they make a plastic tool to remove the covers. On Edith, I covered them with a rag and used a pair of large channel locks carefully to pull them off. That was the way we used to do it on the Peterbuilt back in the 70's.

I've got a big pair of Channel Locks I can try with the rag (why didn't I think of that?) Thanks Joe.
I also found these:

I bet the truck shop where I bought the covers has those pliers. The one I pulled off, I used a rag and channel locks and a brake adjuster tool to help pry off. I bought the wrong ones for rear. Didn't allow for inner nut sticking out farther.
