Cooled Seat Question

Hey guys question on the cooled seats. Should you feel air moving out of the seats during cooling or does the seat just get cold. I am finding that the cooled seats are much weaker then our 2012 F250. They get cool but not cold. Our 2012 will get uncomfortably cold after 10-15 min even in summer and you can feel cold air on your butt blowing almost immediately and that is through Carhartt seat covers. I had to drive my 2017 for 20 mins before I felt that seats where cool not cold and they never got much colder. Almost to the point where my body heat was overpowering the cooling. I tried both driver and passenger and they felt equally as weak. I also put my hand on the seat and could feel almost no actual air movement just kinda cool to touch.

That being said although slower then a resistive wire system (I had 2013 with heat settings 1-5 heated seats, 5 could fry an egg) the heated seats are sufficient in my opinion to the point that I eventually turned them down to maintain comfort.

I do have multi contour seats which I read could make a difference in effectiveness. I read that F150s had a ducting problem in their cooled seat but I thought they fixed it already before new super duties came out. Thoughts? Just trying see if I might have a problem or is this common. Just a little concerned as I live in Houston. Its only 80 here now and they are weak. They seats will be worthless when its 100 degrees and 100% humidity down here in a few months.

Mine get so cold I have to turn them down. You should be able to hear them blowing air as when they are on high. I did notice the driver side is much stronger on my truck than the passenger's side. I only have the front heating/cooling seats.

My 2014 seats were just as you are describing, very weak. I took it to the dealership and the tech said that they were normal. The new 2017 is a bit better.

I have universally found the Ford cooled seats pretty useless. Our 2010 Lincoln MKS, my previous 2015 F350, my 2015 King Ranch, and finally this 2017 truck all have similarly poor seat cooling. In general, the base cools but the seat back remains at ambient temperature. It takes awhile for the seat to cool the base. I don't see much difference for better or worse in the heating or cooling function of my 2017 vs previous examples.

The rear heated seats get much hotter hotter than the front heated seats in these trucks.

I can hear the seats fans on but they never get too cold in my opinion. I guess when I take it in for oil change I will add it to the list. So far I have inaccurate fuel gauge, no Sirius traffic, wrinkled steering wheel leather, and now weak cooled seats. The rears seats get uncomfortably hot. But I think they are old style heating element instead of this new found peltier plate. Honestly I would have settled for a ventilated seats with a strong fan instead. Our Grand Cherokee had that style and it moved enough air to be very effective on a sweaty back.

If you just drive around in your underwear they cool plenty fast.

There is a setting in the settings menu for what to do with the seat for autostart. My were randomly coming on until I set that to off.

Correct, the rears use the traditional resistive grid to supply heat. It is more even, heats quicker, and gets hotter.

The trucks with heated cloth in the front use this same style and get much hotter. Much nicer, in my opinion, when its zero outside.

The 11, 13, and 15's were much cooler than the 17's. The heater is off the charts hot on them all.

Not my experience at all.
