Crunched my towing mirror this morning - shell replacement?

Had a bad case of the Monday mornings today and crunched my mirror on a street tree backing up this morning. All the guts still work and no broken glass, it just looks like the exterior shell is crunched.

Anyone know if you can purchase the exterior shell separately and replace it?

Hard to tell from this parts diagram.

Any advice and links to replacement parts and a DIY would be greatly appreciated.

The parts you need are not available as individual pieces. You have to buy a complete mirror whether new or from a used parts supplier.

Maybe you can buy a cheap used unit and replace the insides with your guts...if you have power telescoping, folding, etc. You can transfer the chrome cap.

Since I cant buy the shell, it looks like its cheaper to buy two aftermarket equivalents than one new factory replacement:

That's good to know. I crunched one on my 2000 truck years ago. I've been pretty careful with mirrors ever since.

power mirror fix

Hi Dave here, smashed shell on drivers side mirror. went to junk yard and bought manual mirror with same shell, replaced all internals. There are
postings on here to help. Cost $100 instead of $1500. Dave

Dave, his mirrors have the replaceable chrome caps. Do the manual mirrors have black caps also?

manual mirrors have black caps, but i think they are interchangeable. pop out the mirrors, unscrew the six screws holding mirror halves together remove front facing cap. Really not too bad and i am not a good mechanic. Dave

Might be worth trying, although mine has the ambient air temp sensor built in. Could be difficult to find a direct swap for the shell.

I'm leaning towards buying a high quality direct replacement aftermarket set for $750 then reselling the perfect OEM drivers side hoping to get around $350-400 for it to offset costs. The passenger side should be worth something too.

If it were me, I wouldn't go the aftermarket, but that is just me. I just looked on Autonation Ford website, and it looks like the OEM right side mirror assembly can be had for $863. Your existing mirror cover may be ok yet.

Mirror, RIGHT for 2016 Ford F-350 Super Duty|DC3Z-17682-MA : AutoNation Ford White Bear Lake | Parts & Accessories

EDIT: My link was for 2016. I see you have 2011. A little bit more expensive - $946.22, I see its the same one that Larry posted the link to a few days ago.

If you have a $500 deductible on your comp/collision insurance maybe that would be the cheapest way to go? Be careful though some insurance complanies only pay for aftermarket parts.
