1967 Econoline c4 swap

Hello there, Got a 1967 econoline with a 240 with a 3 speed manual transmission. Its the 3.03. I was looking at swapping over to a C4. What would be the best year c4 to start looking for? I think on the econoline the trans mounts are different and the tail shaft but not sure. I am very new at this so any help would be appreciated.
thank you

The output shaft on the Econoline automatics was very short and unique to the Econolines. The output shaft and rear cover will swap to another C4. The bolt pattern on the 240 will bolt up to a C4 from a 240, 289, or 302.

1964 had an unusual trans mount. You want the rear cover (includes trans to body mount) from a 1965-1967 Econoline.

Vic (OldSkool on several Econoline forums) can convert your manual steering column to an automatic. He probably has the output shafts and rear covers for sale.

You could use any C4 with the regular, longer output shaft, but then the driveshaft has to be really short. This can work, but the geometry really has to be straight.

But in order to do this, the entire transmission has to be disassembled. Not something a person with no A/T knowledge should attempt.

Plus, the correct length extension housing that matches the output shaft would also have to be swapped.

Thank you for the help, so when searching for a C4 transmission I also should acquire that transmissions extension housing as well?

You need the short extension housing and the short output shaft. A transmission shop can do the swap for you.

And wait til you find out what the tranny shop charges to do that. All the estimates I got were in the $300-450 range.

If you look in the Marketplace section under Ford Truck parts, there is a output shaft/rear housing and a crossmember manufactured by Vic for sale. You can PM for additional info if you need to.
