Reconsidering buying a 3 valve.

Alright gents, the down and dirty is that I've found a 07 5.4 with 150k that has every service record from Ford since birth for the right price.

However the spark plug issue has been concerned, I went through all the service records (online they aren't greatly detailed) and find nothing pertaining to the spark plugs being changed. Is this something I should be greatly concerned about? I've heard horror stories, however I'm more than mechanically inclined to deal with it, it's just off putting to me.

Anyways, quell my most likely needless fear and I'll buy this truck tomorrow.

Thanks
Ricky

If the engine is quiet, smooth, go for it. There should be the tick of the injectors, but other then that, no weird noises, go for it. I'm just about to 178500 on my '07 5.4 and it's still nice and quiet.

I have an '07 F150 5.4 3v. It has 221,000+ miles. Two plug changes done by me and none broke. I posted a thread on how I did the first one, it's not that hard, just don't be in a hurry.

I think the big "secret" to these engines is regular oil changes. I change mine every 3000 miles, use conventional oil and switched from 5W20 to 5W30 as soon as the warranty was out.
I haven't had any of the phaser knock either.

Well lo and behold it was as quiet as a church mouse no smoke or rattles. The plugs also had recently been changed so that's a plus. I'm going to fully service it this coming weekend or the next, to include anti seize for the plugs. Drove the truck about 300 miles so far it's getting better fuel mileage than my 04 4.6 2v did which surprised me. I guess the higher axle ratio and 6 speed transmission helped that.

Great, good to hear you found what sounds like a good one. It's a big plus that the plugs are fresh. As for the trans, it should be a 4 speed if it's an '07, the 6 speed wasn't available in the '07.

Oh, okay, now that makes sense. Your post is in the F-150 forum, so I guess we assumed you were looking at an F-150 not an Expy. No harm no foul. Still sounds like you got a good truck.

Yea I realized I posted in the wrong subsection after the fact, the engine was my main concern anyways. Thanks for your help.
