Never heard of this one

Was driving my '61 to work the other day and "snap" all of the sudden the clutch peddle went to the floor. Figured I broke a cotter pin or something simple.
The z bar broke. I've never heard of a z breaking before. Assuming it was original equipment. The weld was terrible. Re welded it today and will install tomorrow.
Just thought I'd relate something I never heard before.

Ted I see you replied but the post isn't coming up.
I found it through the user cp.
Yes there is a zirk right in the center of the cross bar. The part that broke was the entire ear that connects to the down bar from the pedal.
I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Edit
Hah now your post came up when I posted my answer, weird.

That's a pretty hefty component, it's a kind of bellcrank basically. Were ya able to jam it into 2nd and drive home carefully?

Yeah I use an app to access FTE, every now and then too other posts don't show up under a user name unless I hit quote reply feature.

Yeah that's why I was surprised it broke.
I was on my way. To work and was able to "select" gears into a parking spot.
Then I had it towed home on a flatbed.
I just went out and drove around for awhile. All is well again. Back to its purr.

Put some shoes on!

Nice welds, if I tried that it would look like a volcano. Wonder why it broke, now I have something else to worry about on mine.

I would not have expected that part to break. I had the linkage rod for the clutch give out on my 65, the one that connects to the z bar and goes thru the floor. I was even surprised when that part snapped.

Yeah that's why I figured I'd post it. Pretty darn rare.
it looked like the factory only got good welds on about a third of the arm and it wore out after 56 years. Hell I was worn out then also.😊
