Wow, small world, I was in 702 also, cant remember the company though. I was in the barracks right next to the chow hall and Heliport. I thought about it for a while and I had my dates wrong, I was there 4/97-4/98. I was a 63G at the motorpool. I went to Ft. Hood after that. Man, that was a long time ago, cant believe it was 20 years ago.

Well, got the engine and trans out. Have to say, it was not near as easy as my last build with the cab off.

Im struggling on what to do with the transmission. Rebuild the 435, put in a C6, or do a ZF swap. I banged the 435 up a little bit getting it out and then because I had take the top cover off for clearance, a bunch of 30 year old schmegma fell into it. Nasty. The Lazy part of me says jusy go with a C6 but then I have to hunt the Junk yards for a column and shift linkage too.

The whole frame and engine are still coated with this untercoating junk, its going to be real nasty to get off.

The new chow hall? I was in the same barracks on the 2nd floor down at the end of the hall. And you had to walk around the warehouse to get to work? I bet we've met and don't know it.. lol
btw, I like the trucks.

Do you think you might go with the FI-Tech system like on your wife's truck? How is that working, BTW?

No, I dont think so.. At least not now and the only reason I say that is with the 2 tanks it would be difficult to set up the fuel pumps and Im not sure I want to use their Fuel Commander. I have a Edelbrock carb on the shelf, think Im going to use it for now.

Got the transfer case out today. What a pain in the butt with the cab on, not sure how Ill get it back in there! Its COVERED in the undercoating and really nasty. I rented a steam pressure washer for the weekend and hope it gets this gunk off of the engine / trans and frame. Ill let you know how it goes.

It could be that I'm too old, or that I've spent too much time at sea to need what most people call ****. This is my kind. Sweet truck, you're doing a great thing brother. Following.

Well, had a busy and productive weekend. Rented a 3500psi heated pressure washer to try and get off the undercoating and grime and it worked pretty well. It took quite a while to get off the undercoating but the oil and grease came right off. Dont know that the temp of the water was but it was hat enough I had to wear gloves to use the wand.

Check out these before and after pics.

Looks great. Amazing how much sludge and grime can build up over the years. Mine needs a good steam cleaning. Waiting on much warmer weather first.

Looking good Jim. But I see that your truck actually has either a Borg Warner T18 or T19 4 speed and NOT a Np435. No big deal other than you'll want to verify which one it is and get the correct rebuild kit if you choose that route. But if you choose to go with a C6 swap(and I'm sorry I didn't think to mention this before) you should know that the trucks with an automatic trans got larger u-joints than the trucks with a manual trans. Again not a big deal you'll just have to get a special cross over u-joint to mate the driveshaft to the differentials. Or swap the pinion flange on the differentials to match. And yes you'll be needed to swap the drive shafts since and probably the crossmember. Since the C6 is longer then either the Borg Warner and the New Process.

Man, I owe you BIG! I didnt even realize that it wasnt a 435, this is my first Manual trans truck I thought for some reason all the 250's came with the 435 - I looked up the numbers and its a T18, I hear they are good transmissions..?? I thought about converting to the c6 but I have 2 dents with the C6 so Im keeping this one with the manual. I was going to order the rebuild parts next week so thanks for the save!
