P0300- Random Misfired- Already Replaced Plugs/Coils
Hello All,
Some background: 2000 V10 Excursion w/o 163k miles.
Recently had misfires when in OD. Code reader said misfired in cylinders 1 and 3. Went ahead and took this opportunity to replace all 10 plugs and boots. Replaced coils on cylinders 1 and 3 (also replaced the coil on 5 as well because I was already in there and did not want to have to get back there again any time soon...). A few pics below:
Old DS:
Old PS:
This made a world of difference and the truck felt brand new. I have put maybe 50 miles on it since then, and just noticed a misfire again. It is the same feeling I had in OD previously. It I s much less noticeable and less frequent at idle. Now I'm getting P0300- "Random Misfires" code instead of a cylinder-specific one that I got earlier.
Any ideas for next steps? Going to double check all injector and coil connections tomorrow. Would love to hear any ideas from the knowledgeable folks on here. I remember reading someone who had actually had wire chafing issues under the sheathing in an injector wiring harness, but since my code reader isn't showing a specific cylinder issue, I would rather avoid tearing into that yet, if possible.
Battery is relatively new and checks out fine per my multimeter.

Not sure why my pictures are showing up so large.
The good news is that this morning my code reader showed the issue as the #9 cylinder, so I will get into it to see what the issue is. Hoping it's just an injector connection (I broke one off during my maintenance and taped it tight, but that was a different cylinder. Thinking I may have done it twice and not noticed).

Hopefully that will be your issue, someone else here recently had a wire break at the COP connector that had to be repaired.
Was there water getting into that one rusty plug? Was it back near the rear of the hood where the rubber cowl seal has a gap that can let water get in and drip onto the COPs? There is a thread here that explains this and shows a fix, pretty east actually, just RTV/caulk up the joint in the center of the two piece rear hood seal on the cowl to keep the COPs dry.

Crossing my fingers on it being either brittle connector or wire issue on either COP or injector.
Thanks for your reply

all 10 of my injector connectors broke upon removal. I fixed it with zip ties. one on each injector. the shell around the latch tab was intact, so i ran a zip tie through that, around the injector, and back to itself and cinched it down. works great. Just takes a pair of cutters to get them off, but no sticky residue.

And noted on the zip tie. Thanks for the tip.

What is it with cylinder 9? Seems a lot of people are having problems on that same cylinder. That's where my broken wire at the COP connector was. The clip was broken too and I had zip ties holding it on. I had the connector replaced though once the broken wire was found. I still have two broken connectors held tight with zip ties. Wrap one zip tie around both connectors and then another around the middle of the first zip tie to keep it from popping off.

Got a link to the ones you purchased?

I think these are them.
They come with pigtails on. I removed the pigtails with a paper clip. That gives you practice removing the wires from the clips.

Got some zip ties on and it has fixed my problem. May replace the clips if I feel like it. Also found 2 others that were snapped off that I missed previously.
Thanks for the tips.
Now off to my latest issue... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l-changes.html. Figured I would post in the V10 forums as it probably isn't Excursion specific.
