Truck popped out of gear and now won't go in gear.

Got a 1993 F150 with the 4.9 and 5 speed trans that shuttered and popped out of 5th while driving down the highway yesterday. I was unable to put it back into gear until I slammed it into 4th to limp all the way home in 4th. I am still able to disengage the clutch and while coasting in neutral before slamming it into 4th, I was unable to put it in any gear. It is as if all the gates are blocked.

I'm not sure what to look for first on it. I will check trans fluid because I know there is a slight leak. I doubt it will be the case that it is low because I have driven this truck 30-40k (3 yrs) since I got it and only checked it and topped it off (was about 1qt low) a few months ago.

Most likely worn shift fork.

Pull carpet up like so, and remove floor plate to expose top of trans and disassemble. Then inspect forks for wear.

I was thinking that may be a possible cause. Good to see that I can access it without pulling it with what look to be plenty of room. I will start taking it apart to check it out. Thanks.

Yeah there should be plenty of room, this is an overhead shot through the floor. You will.have to pull will plates by the doors and shifter boots. And if I remember the carpet kinda tucks under the kick panels. But, yes it can be done without dropping the trans. I just went to the local junkyard and grabbed one and put it in. I'm sure I'll eventually have to do it again.
