Fuel consumption doubled
Hello everyone,
I'm new to forums of any kind and would like to thank all of you that make this community possible.
I have a 1989 F350 duely that I purchased two years ago and finally have a problem I can't solve on my own. My MPG dropped to about half a few weeks ago and have replaced many things that didn't need replacement. With timing set properly putting the spout back in sends the advance to 25+ degrees. Code received from the innova 3145 are 82, 41, 62 KOEO. I have yet to extract O2 sensor to put in a new one. Temperature here is around 0 and I have no garage so I'm hope that can wait for spring. Transmission could probably use a rebuild but I'd like to fix what I can now and get the MPG up to what it was a few months ago. This brings me to (82 air diverter solenoid circuit fault or 82 integrated relay control module). I replaced the EEC and no change. Air diverter solenoid fault? ??? Where do I start? I have the 1989 Ford shop manual PDF and Haynes repair manual. If any other references out there I should have let me know.

I do have two tanks. That is not the case. Keeping one tank empty for a while helped to determine that. Plus the increased odor of raw gasoline from the engine compartment tells me too much fuel is being injected. I had a problem with vacuum tubes breaking apart and had to replace most of that. Not sure if that was the problem and didn't successfully repair it.

The AIR management system will not cause it to run pig rich(loosing MPG). Most likely is the O2 sensor is "almost bad" causing the ECU to run the engine rich.
What I mean by "almost bad" is the O2 sensor is not to the point of the ECU seeing as a failed part. But enrichens the fuel mixture to compensate for the O2 sensor going out of tolerance. I currently having the same issue with my 89 F250. I have a O2 monitor hooked up and the O2 sensor shows mostly lean(not cycling between lean and rich) while in close loop mode.

Thanks. I've been trying to extract the old one and suspected this to be the case. I may still have a bad air pump but my biggest concern right now is the very low MPG. The test codes are 41-O2 sensor always lean, 62-Transmission 4/3circuit fault, & 82-Air diverter solenoid circuit fault.
