I had no idea there is a clutch in the torque converter. I really don't need more problems with the thing...

I realized shortly after posting that yours is a v8 with AWD not 4wd ...oops.

Yes your transfer case has clutches but when they go out you feel them rumble around corners when you turn on pavement.

That's what sent my 2000 down the road.

Drive it a couple weeks and see if it gets better. If not, it may be time to have a transmission shop check it out.

Thanks I will. I hope it does get right I like the truck, but don't want to put a lot of dollars in it. Might take some time to work the new lube into every place it needs to be and make it do what it has to do.

A thought, does this trans have bands in it? Maybe they are loose in the gears slipping? (If there are in fact any) Just shootin in the dark now.

No bands and no other user adjustable items

When do you feel it shudder? What is the trans doing when you feel it?

Can you describe the timing of the shudder? For example: On the 2-3 upshift, or a few seconds after the 2-3 upshift?

Brought it to a tranny shop to put additive in it, they found out the short yellow dip stick was broken. No way to know how much oil in it except over fill and let it come out till it stopped. I went and bought the dip stick from ford and brought it to the new trans shop to check how much fluid in it. At the same time add Dr Trannys trans shudder fix. They found it to be 2 quarts low on fluid, added that and tranny shutter fix, it took about 2 miles to get back in shape, shortly after no shudder and no problem. 35-40 mph trans unsure where it wants to be in 5or6 but working great might be computer glitch, who knows, doing great now. No codes, no worries. Thanks for all the info and help on the Forum much appreciated. Geo.

I think at that speed it is just going to hunt back and forth. using the tow/haul is about the only way to solve.

I'm glad the additive worked for you. I'm always leery of additives in general, but if it works it works.

time to enjoy driving it!

Sounds similar to yours. Might be something to check out; lots of similarities between the 6r80 and 6r60
