49 F1 rear spring u-bolts

I've been driving the ole truck some and am concerned about the pinion angle. I can live with it but don't want to damage any seals or anything. Engine angle is about 3 degree down but the stock rear end is way high. I was thinking of shimming between the springs and axle. What I need to know is what are the problems associated with this. Is there an easier way of doing it. What about the small center spring pack bolt. Where do I buy slightly longer U-bolts if I add shims. Lots of unknowns. Thanks

First, you need to confirm pinion angle before you do anything. Eyeballing can be okay, if you know what it should look like, but knowing the exact angle is best. Shims and longer u-bolts can be picked up at NAPA and many other parts stores.

I don't see how the stock axle could be "off"? Unless there is something broken.

I have an angle finder and finding the proper angle is not a problem. The stock rear end just naturally is angled higher than wanted. What about the small center bolt in the spring pack. It will almost certainly break before coming loose. I don't want any surprises when I cut those old u-bolts off. Thanks for the replies

There is no spring pressure on that bolt, it just holds the springs together.
