OEM is as Warhorse said, though Scotty the Mad Porter from the 460ford.com forum recommended a 160 high flow for mine as a mild performance build. Scott built mine so I go with his recommendatation, no idea if that applies to a stocker. Here's a link to that question and answers on that forum.

The original from Ford as built was a Robertshaw 205°F Hi Flow T stat. See below.

If you are not going to use a hi flow stat then 195°F If you are regularly hauling heavy loads or towing heavy trailers and finding that the engine is getting to hot with the 195°F step down to a 180°F.

On a regular street driven vehicle with a properly operating cooling system you never want to run any thing colder than 180°F, cylinder wear goes up drastically once you start running an engine below 180°F. See below

Motorcraft RT-1067-A comes up on Ford Parts. Not stated in description but I believe it's a 190-something stat. I use this stat in my 460 under all conditions and it's been very consistent. Also, the nice thing about Motorcraft stats is they have a nifty little bleeder valve that makes filling coolant a cinch without creating air locks in the engine.

Thanks, again, everybody for the info on the thermostat. On Sunday, I installed the new thermostat, flushed the cooling system, and refilled with three gallons of Prestone concentrate.

Heater works great, truck warms-up nicely, and both gauges reflect the expected temps.

Very happy

I have been running the 180 in mine for years. It gets hot enough towing with the 180.
