I know what you mean. I got a spare tire carrier for my 54 because my truck didn't have one and it looks nice to have it hanging there. I will post pics later when I find them.

The last time I had a flat on the road was in the early 80's in my 55 Chevy on the PA turnpike when I hit a bump at a bridge they working on.

I want to show off my truck with the spare tire under the bed. Because most of the 53-56 have after market rims and wider tires. I have 15x7 red rims with coker 3" white walls p235/75x15. And I got the 272 y-block in my truck a lot of people that see my engine like it instead of big block chevy of ford motor.

Hi I notice that your j-hook is close to the end of the frame. The hole in my frame is 4.5" from the end frame. I went to my friends hose and saw 2 holes in the frame. I only have one. I'll test fit when I get my tire mounted on the rim and see if I came use the same hole if the tire hit the L bracket I'll have to drill the extra hole in the frame.

Mine will be as well. did you use the original up-and-in (for lack of a better description) holes, or something custom?

Mine ('53) is in the inside hole with the J-hook turned the other way. It looks like Abe has his turned the same way.

My j-hook is mounted the same way. I'll wait and see if everything is OK when I get my spare back. I'll test fit and see where my spare tire locates nears my L-bracket. If the edge of the tire hit the L-bracket I'll move the carrier toward rear and see what happened.
