2005 Brake upgrade

Hello, after replacing rotors, calipers, pads, hoses and hardware with OEM parts TWICE now I'm still having issues with my brakes sticking and dragging!!! I am starting to suspect the pistons within the calipers themselves. I think that Quality (expensive) aftermarket parts is going to be my soulition but would like to get some input from some fellow Super Duty owners before I pull that trigger. Thanks

Have you replaced, cleaned, lubricated your slide pins?

The calipers do occasionally seize up and drag, the better NAPA caliper on the rear of my truck has been fine for 5/6 years. The slide pins for the caliper are also an issue if not lubricated, although I've never experienced break dragging from a seized pin.... I learn something new every day from this site so I'm not going to say it couldn't be a possibility.

Thanks for the replies, although I haven't replaced my slide pins I have cleaned and lubed them. They've always seemed to be well lubed and free working which leads me to believe that the problem lies somewhere else, caliper pistons perhaps. I'm gonna look into the "Better" option from Napa and see what makes it better. Sounds like this problem might be able to be fixed with local parts and not expensive aftermarket stuff. Thanks again for your responces.

The last time I replaced brakes on one of mine, the caliper bracket was rusted and wouldn't let the pads slide. I couldn't clean it up,had to replace it.

As most have, I had this same issue with brakes hanging up and dragging. This doesn't help out much now but the best option I saw when I dug into it was to replace the entire caliper along with the caliper bracket. The good thing about doing it this way was that the slide pins were new also, just disconnected the brake line from the caliper, remove the caliper and the caliper bracket and bolt on the new. So far so good, but this is the first winter that I am going through with the replacements, so I will see how they hold up.

Make sure you either throughly clean, or replace the caliper brackets. Rust build up under the seats where the pads sit can cause hangup problems. I have had to replace five calipers on my 2006 in 50K miles. I now only use replacements that include the brackets - that means they're clean and with new slide pins.

Edit: On refresh I see I'm pretty much repeating what VermtownKingRanch said above! Consider my post another vote for what he's said, lol.
