Happy New Year!!!!

I just want to wish all you guys and gals a very happy and prosperous new year! I get a kick out of all the different stories and useful tidbits of knowledge that gets passed around here on a daily basis. I'm starting my 55th year on this side of the grass and this forum adds a great deal of pleasure and entertainment to my life. I hope my small contributions add the same to your lives. I look forward to engaging ya'll in 2017! Happy New Year

Almost forgot to pass along a little anecdote that is just about as far removed from what we discuss here on a daily basis as you can get. This past week the wife and I went into the big city (Pittsburgh) to do some shopping and see the Christmas decorations. We parked in our usual lot and were walking down the street (pretty much smack dab in the heart of downtown) when a Volvo SUV, with some sort of spinning gizmo on the roof, cruises down the street. Then another car, different make, with the same gizmo on the roof goes by. What the heck? Turns out that they are Uber autonomous (aka driverless) vehicles being tested in co-operation with Carnegie-Melon University. I guess if they can successfully navigate the streets of downtown Pittsburgh they are ready for primetime. There were drivers in the car to monitor their performance. The world is a changin! I'll be impressed when the computer can drive an old Ford with a crash box tranny.

The computer stops the car and then installs digital snow chains.

What ? No ice melter blaster jets on the front bumper?

I'm too old to stay up til midnight. At 11:00 am I went to a friends place for his Icelandic new years party. Iceland is twelve hours ahead, so we had a few beers and blew on some party favors at noon.
