460 2g to 3G alternator ?

I've searched for hrs on this but before I bought an alternator thought I would ask. On my 92 f250 460 I'm looking to replace the alternator. Should I buy one for a 95 460 or one from a 91-92 Taurus?
Are ANL fuses ok for output protection or should I use mega fuse and what amp? I'm just going to use the 95amp alternator. Thanks, Anthony

Mine is a 87 but I purchased a 93 ford taurus 3.0 alternator. What is your mounting bolt hole measurement from each other.

I just did this upgrade on my 92 F250 460 less than a month ago. Was planning it eventually even tho no issues with 2G. Was at salvage yard and walked right by a 96 F350 with the stock 95 amp 3G laying there. Somebody took the bracket. I grabbed it and the harness back to solenoid. Only mod I had to do was cut the green/red stripe wire and splice to orignal (same) wire in mine. Works/fit perfect. So if you were OK with the smaller case (factory) 95 amp 3G just get one for a 96.

They made factory small case 130 amp alternator. 35 extra amps doesnt seem worth it from the stock 60 amp to 95

No,
They made both 95A and 130A 3G alternators in narrow (7") and wide (8.25") mounting styles.

The small case alternator is 135mm in diameter and has four holes between the ribs. (95A)

The large case alternator is 148mm in diameter and has two holes between the ribs. (130A)

One of the big advantages of the 3G alternator is better output at idle.
While the 130 can put out more at idle than the 65A 2G can at redline, the 95A 3G will provide measurably more charging current at any engine speed.
This is important if you are plowing or any other application where you have auxiliary lights, the blower running full tilt and are not driving the truck at sustained rpms.

Truck is a work truck and will also plow so low rpms a lot of time. I don't have a local wrecking yard nearby so I was planning on ordering a reman alt and wire it with 2 or 4 gauge cable. Are ANL fuses ok for line protection? Thank you

I suppose, if you already have one.

Everybody uses the Megafuse because thats what comes in the Taurus that people use as donors.

I didnt do it as much for the amp upgrade as preventing the melting/fire issues with the 2G connector. The factory harness I used had fusible links where it connected to the fender solenoid so I didn't add any fuses beyond that.

This^^^^^^
SO. Much. This

After mysterious dead batteries, and the melting plugs (yes plural) I finally got fed up and installed a 3G.
More power, no problems, perfect fit.
Win, win, win!

That's why I'm doing the swap also. I've done so damn much work on the truck it would kill me to see it burn from a known problem I'm actually aware of.

I just did the 3g on my 92 302, but I used the small case 130 amp alternator.
And I used 4g wire with a circuit breaker.
I bought this one from Amazon.
Had to relock it to make it work better.

I think I used the harness from a 94 f150.
All I did was change the plug connector for the green wire at the fender.

Installed.
150amp circuit breaker with 4g wire.
I just did the 3g on my 92 302, but I used the narrow ear 130 amp alternator
FTFY

That is a 148mm case with the 7" C-C mounting ears.
Application: early '90's 3.0l V6.
Fits Windsor's with minor clearancing of the engine's mounting bracket.

The 4.9 & 7.5l need the 8.25" ears found on early '90's 3.8l V6.
