2012 Escape/3.0/4X4
OK guys, my wife and I pulled the trigger for a 2012 Escape tonight. Mileage (42,500), condition, price, all the stars were in alignment.
But, we're being offered an extended warranty for 5 years/100K miles as an option for what ends up being $25 per month. Coverage is anything non-cosmetic or typical wear items.
So I have a question for those of you with similar vehicles:
Would you purchase the warranty knowing what you have experienced thus far?
I'm leaning towards the peace of mind but this would also be the first time we've purchased an extended warranty.
Opinions welcome.
And yes, I see the recall for the fuel module.

I bought mine new in 12 and have really not had any issues besides rust starting on rear wheel wells. we have 62000 miles approx. if it was me I wouldn't buy any extended warr. that wasn't ford. but as always that is up to u. I have replaced one ptu (transfer case) on one with about 100,000 miles. and I believe it was like $4000 just for the part. but that was only one vehicle. and I work on several at ford dealer so I myself am not to worried. ofcource this is just my opinion.

Thanks speaser.
This is through our local Ford dealer and we get more information tomorrow and decide on the warranty.
We plan on having Ziebart do their thing since the undersides look to be in good shape given the year and mileage. Anything we can do to slow rust in the northeast is money well spent.

If you do decide to get the the Ford ESP plan - and make sure it's the Ford ESP - before you pay the price the dealer wants, go online and search for Ford ESP - there are dealers out there who will sell the same Ford extended service plans online for about half what most dealers ask for when you purchase the vehicle. The markup is almost criminal when you figure the guys selling it for that about half price figure are still making money on it.

Wife and I will be asking some pointed questions this afternoon....
Photos on the Ford dealers website indicate 7 year 100K powertrain warranty , but they say the owners daughter was driving it and they are not offering that warranty.
I want to know why. What did she do to it that they feel it's not warrantable?
The warranty they want to sell is an aftermarket 3rd party so we won't be buying that.
Something smells of fish....bad.
They had a couple Escapes and we couldn't remember which one had this sticker....ends up it was the one we are interested in.

Certification was removed since they didn't know when the onwers daughter would "be done with it" and it was returned with fewer miles than they anticipated. Unfortunately, the cost of re-certifying was too great to be worth doing.
We ended up with Fords 3/36 plan for free with the deductible waived if the dealer we purchased from does the work.

Original warranty expires in February and the 7/100K was advertised, but technically inapplicable because they had removed the certification.
We would have had 2 years of powertrain warranty remaining.
They gave use the 3/36 for free and if we take it to the Dealer we purchased from the deductible is waived. 3/36 was offered free to us, not incorporated into the already negotiated price.
Based on the average miles we had been puttin gon our '02, the 3/36 will be a toss up as far as whether it'll be miles or date that ends the warranty since the warranty begins with the date of purchase.
Unless I missed something, 3 years instead of 2 is an OK thing.
