fuel pump questions

So I found a cheap e fuel pump by the rear tank hooked to a toggle switch in my dash. Since I'm having air intrusion issues and get stranded often could I use the e fuel pump to prime my lines? I removed all the wiring to it since it wasn't done correctly. But I want to see if I can use it to prime my truck but I want to shut it off and use my regular fuel pump. This possible?

It is possible but you should 1. fix the return lines as that is probably what is causing the air intrusion. 2. For simplicity's sake, it is best to pick one pump, less places for air intrusion and leaks, if you choose the e-pump then there's no chance of flooding the engine with diesel, lastly the mechanical pumps fuel curves are usually all over the place, so a consistent fuel supply could net a boost in performance.

I will find the air intrusion eventually. Since the e pump is already installed by previous owner I'm curious if it will work to prime the system then I can switch it off to use the stock fuel pump system.

Also I've replaced the check valve and installed the clear return line.

That's what I'm going to do; that way you get the benefits of the electric with the reliability of the mechanical.
BUT you need to make sure to use a 'thru-flow' e-pump so you don't restrict the feed to the mechanical. Any old cheap-o e-pump isn't going to do that.

Well I'm very sure it's a cheap Ole e fuel pump. It's already installed I just have to rewire it. It's only temporary until I find my air intrusion. I might go full e pump later on but for now I just want to use it to prime my fuel lines.

I realize I didn't word that well up there; I meant a cheap-o pump isn't likely to be a tru-flow.

FWIW.

it will work fine for a primer pump, just remember to turn it off after the engine is running or it will die real quick.. if it is not already dead.

Got the e pump wired up to a toggle switch then found a object that went thru my fuel line. Had to repair it with a kit from advanced auto. But the e fuel pump is working correctly as well :-)

buy a 100 micron filter and install it between pump and tank to protect the pump, from debries that what kills most e pumps.
