61-67 econoline bumper bracket bolts

Does anybody know the size of the front bumper bracket to the frame BOLT SIZE?
I know they are grade 8.
Thanks, Dennis

7/16"-14

I'll see if I can find one to measure the length.

The Ford part number is 45550-S

Strange - it is not listed in the truck parts book, except for the number.

Same bolt as the 1962-64 Fairlane rear bumper, and the 1964 T-Bird rear bumper.

I have a real one in front of me. Despite the fact that the Ford parts book says 7/16", I have one in front of me that is 1/2"-13. I have removed these from many Econolines from 1961 to 1967, and I think they are all the same.

The total length is 4 1/4" long. The thread starts at 2" from the head and goes to 3 7/8" from the head.

The tip is unthreaded and smaller diameter. This helps you to fish it through the frame and the brackets and helps you center the nut.

This means the picture in the parts book is probably wrong, the oaet number is wrong, and the compatibility I told you is probably wrong as well.

BTW, the nut was crimped by Ford to make it into a locknut. Be sure to use a good locknut, because you don't want these coming loose.

Ford shows the same 45550-S7-8 part number in the 1961/63 and 1964/72 truck parts catalogs.

Also used on 1966 T-Bird rear bumper, where I got the complete part number and the specs.

front bumper bracket to frame bolt.

So, what is the conclusion on the size of these bolts, 7/16-14 or 1/2-13?

The Ford parts books are not always correct.

I have removed them from a half-dozen Econolines from 1961 to 1967, and they are all 1/2"-13. They are one of the hardest bolts to remove from the truck.

Can you try slipping a 1/2" bolt through the hole?

Some bumper bolt pictures

Hello. I was only able to save two bumper bolts. These are 1/2" bolts. I included some pictures.
Bumper bolt head.

Bumper bolt.

Another view.

Bumper bolt nut.

They get rusty after 50 years. And Ford staked the nuts to make them hard to loosen.

Thanks for the help. Lost parts at the body shop is no fun.
If they cannot be found, possibly a member has a set.
The Jeep body bolts are close but a 1/2" short. Is there an xtra 1/2" that would allow me to use the Jeep body bolts?
Thanks,
Dennis Wagner

I'm not sure if they are the same as a Falcon but you can try this.
