brake controller question

Where were the brake controllers plumbed into originally? front MC port or rear port? Mine is now on the rear port, but I was wondering since the front port would move more fluid, or does it even matter? Thanks.

When I had one, I tapped into the rear brakes which was the most forward port. Adjustment for actual application was inside the carb.

My truck was set up with a brake line pressure controller and I removed it. I figured the electronics were questionable after that many years. Also, all new setups I have seen are electronic. There must be a reason.

I now have an all electronic controller with no brake line tap.

I would recommend getting a new brake controller. They are electronic and alot easier to install. No messing with your brakelines. I have installed them for over 20 years. You will not regret it.

The electronic ones came about because of antilock brakes. No way to put a hyd. unit in with antilock. I have had a lot of electronics, they service me ok. I prefer the hydraulics, the more brake I apply, the more trailer brake I have. The electronics are determined by a pendulum, swinging back and forth, and as you stomp the pedal, the pendulum is thrown forward, increasing brake power. I hope you aren't on a slick road and need to stop from rolling down the hill, backward, or hope you aren't backing a boat into the water on a steep wet ramp. The pendulum thinks it is not trying to stop and won't actuate unless you manually do it. Thanks for the help I have mine t-d into the rear brake port, as all others I have ever seen.

New controllers don't use a pendulum. I think the last one I bought several years ago was a Tekonsha Primus IQ and it doesn't use a pendulum. I really like it and if I remember right it didn't matter how I mounted it unlike the old pendulum kind.
As for backing up it apply the brakes just as the same as going forward unless I tell it not brake which I usually do.

Get you a Redline TA1000. Very good dependable controller at a good price, usually around 65 dollars. It is not a "pendulum style" as mentioned. It will turn on your trailer brakes anytime at the power you have it set at. There are also a number of digital controllers out there also that are good if you like to see a number instead of a colored light.

Controller

I worked at a truck shop in OKC 20 years ago. We intalled the hyd ones and then switched over to the electronic ones. So much easier to install and never had a complaint and l have used a few over the years and they always worked the way they were supposed to.
