Crower Power Beast 390

Id like some feedback on the crower power beast camshaft, as I'm in the middle of sliding one in on my 55 f100. I wanted some strong mid range and that nostalgic exhaust note. I tried to search to see what folks thought of it, but my searches never turned anything up. I picked up a factory 4bbl intake, a holley 600 street warrior, a roller timing set and the crower power beast cam, lifter and spring set. Wanting to liven up the old girl. Thanks in advance!

First, welcome to FTE!

Do you have the part # of that cam? Once we know which one, someone here will certainly have an opinion on it

From: http://www.crower.com/media/pdf/CompleteCatalog.pdf

POWER BEAST / PERFORMANCE LEVEL 3 - Delivers impressive mid-range and top end power. Healthy sound. Economical price.
RPM Power Range: 1200 to 3800 / Redline: 5200 plus.

112° lobe center
Advertised duration int: 292° exh: 302°
Duration @.050": int: 214° exh: 224°
Gross lift: int: .521" exh: .547"

Have you had any spring work done to the existing heads? They might need some work to make this work, the .521/.547" lift might require some cutting for those springs.

What's your compression now?

Compression is stock whatever truck 390 had. Machine shop rebuilt the heads and installed the springs Crower sold with the cam. Crower said no machine work was required to run these springs and this cam. I was just wondering what personal feedback was on the cam. Crower recommended this cam for me, but wanted to know how people liked it that were using it.

Ah, sorry, didn't realize you were already into it and just wanted opinions.

Go to google, and search for this:

crower 16903 site:ford-trucks.com

One of the gems from that search: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...m-upgrade.html

Another "gem" although might not be what you want to hear, starting at post #9 from Ratsmoker (the original moderator here on the FE forum): https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-it-worth.html

An "old" grind that sounds great.
