I'm still trying to figure out the part about EPA giving a traffic ticket. Was in Law Enforcement a lot of years and never heard of it. I have heard of individual state versions of EPA, in Oregon they are called DEQ, taking action at a vehicle inspection station during recertification - they aren't even allowed to carry guns in Oregon,....but Federal EPA Special Agents making a traffic stop?????????????

I drive a 96 PSD and do not enjoy people giving us a bad rep. I've never seen a good reason to get smokey.

Imagine this.......You see a cop has someone pulled over on the side of the road so you decide to show off and roll some coal. The person receiving the ticket looks at the cop and says, "see that, what are you going to do about it".

Now, do you suppose the cop really wants to go back to the station and explain to his division commander why an irate motorist you just wrote a ticket to is complaining that you singled him out, but let another violator go?

Let's take it one step further. Wile the chances are minimal of this, they are much greater today than they were 5 years ago.....As you go by, you hit your switch, roll coal and distract the cop. In that instant he looks away, towards you, to see what you are up to and takes his eyes and attention off of the person he has stopped, that person pulls a gun out and fires at the Officer. Or goes after him with a razor blade. (One of the biker and gang tricks was to tape or embed a razor blade in their drivers license).

(Take a close look at my avatar)

What you did was instantly send a signal that you failed the FAT. That translates into Field Attitude Test. I would have most certainly issued a citation for it and if you placed me in an embarrassing position with the driver I had pulled over, I most likely would have towed your pickup to boot. You wouldn't pull up in front of an Officer and then do a burn out, why would you violate the same law by causing unreasonable or excessive emissions, to wit: exhaust. And by the way, I'm retired so you are safe from me.

Not to be a hard ***, but somethings just aren't smart. Diesels are getting more and more restrictions placed on them all the time.

Lecture over, fishing time.
Very well said!

EPA can send the citation by USPS...............going back a few decades when I was in school, my valve guides completely let go during the last week........yup, got 3 notices and had to go to court.

Apparently Oregon hasn't quite gotten Kalifornicated enough for that yet, but give the Demon(crats) in Salem just a little more time. Oregon DEQ can pop people at a vehicle inspection, a LEO can cite for excessive visible or noise emissions (noise and smoke), but that's it. Have never heard of the Federal EPA getting involved with an individual automobile owner for excessive smoke in this state.
They do industrial type, but not individual here.

No boost equals excess smoke, you were trying to limp it home. Judge might buy it.....

On the reality side, you were being an **** and got the attention.

In chapter one of the New York Times best seller "You Can't Teach Common Sense" it says something like "Not a good idea to give Cops a reason (whether you think its justified or not) to pull you over".
In all seriousness with the way things are today the Police have it tough enough without some person suffering from Cranalrectalinversion just seeing if they can be irritating and get a reaction. That part of your plan obviously worked.
BTW, the next time you get pulled over I'll bet the cop will see the citation for your stunt and no doubt he will be very sympathetic and understanding.

2003 f350 7.3 smokes bad if you take off cold but runs fine no smoke after it hits normal operating temp. Any ideas what to check for engines controls or sensors that might cause this.

Thanks Don

Agree with this.

OP wanted to play a game, the officer obliged. Surely OP didn't want to play alone...he just should realize the police have more cards in their hand. Frankly, with the issues the police have to deal with today, it's pretty crummy to be screwing with them. How would you like it if they came in to your job and messed with you for no reason?

I am retired after 31 years in law enforcement. You can do about anything you want within reason, just don't draw attention to yourself. To OP, it kind of sounds like you failed this life lesson.
