Guys, my buddy's 97 7.3 has the black fuel Filter disease and disappearing coolant. I can't seem to remember does this indicate injector cups? Or just orings?

 

The black filter is usually orings. The coolant loss could be cups. How much is he losing?

I thought when the cups were bad you got fuel into the coolant... because the fuel pressure is higher than the coolant pressure.

 

could be a blown copper gasket, that would put soot into the fuel and possibly over heat the injector too, once that happens the cup could suffer damage


time to pull the injectors and make note on how tight they were on removal

 

That's bad orings.

Bad cups will put fuel into the coolant.

Disappearing coolant is either leaking, going into the oil or out the exhaust
