3rd Axle Seal and Still Leaking
Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes...I have a 1983 f/250, 4wd, 460 that when I bought it the owner had just put new axle seals in the rear hubs when he did the brakes. Unfortunately, he didn't do the brakes right and I had them redone about a year later. In that time the seals had started leaking again so I had them replaced when the brakes were redone. They went about 3 months and both started leaking again. The right one is leaking BAD.
I assume that the axle shaft must be worn slightly keeping the seal from sealing correctly. Is there any way to fix this without replacing the shaft? Not really in the budget right now. I heard about a sleeve called a supra sleeve or something to that effect. Does anyone have experience with them? Thoughts? Are they something I can install myself? I am not a mechanic but have done lots of repair work over the years.
I appreciate any input.
Cheers!
