Diesel Specific Codes

SGII recently showed a DTC count of 1 last week while I was driving the family to get a Christmas tree (no CEL). Last time I had driven it was about 5 days prior pulling the travel trailer. Zero DTCs at the end of that trip. Didn't notice anything different on the drive to get the tree.

SGII won't read the code, nor clear it. Friend brought an Actron scanner over - no dice. Went to local parts house, watched as their scanner said it was connecting with CAN protocol - no dice.

I've read a fair amount about "diesel-specific" codes that only high end readers or software can pick up. Anyone know if these "diesel-specific" codes fall under a certain area of the engine (injector related, HPO related, etc.)?

I've had what I thought were diesel-specific codes before (EGR valve, ICP intermittent) that the SG was able to read and clear. I think I had a MAF code that the SG could read but couldn't clear.

I'm not asking for anyone to guess my code (but kudos if you guess right); just curious if there is any sort of rhyme or reason for these diesel-specific codes.

Some readers can and others can't. Get anew Android device. Load Torque Pro software using the ELM327 OBD Bluetooth or WiFi for communication and read all the codes and clear anything.

Scan gauge works good for data, horrible for codes except the code count.

Thanks Randy, I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to find an Android device. Maybe someone upgrading for Christmas will let one go for cheap.

Try a Galaxy Note tablet. The older ones can be had under $100, nice sized for a display.

You could do ForScan on a Laptop as well, it's a free software, uses the same device to communicate with the truck. Works on Windows machines, codes, buzz tests and I've heard will contribution power balance.

Thanks again. Had my brain focused on an expensive solution because the cheap ones that had come to mind didn't work. Will probably give Forscan a go as I've got a laptop that's been a great dust-catcher for a couple years.
