Under dash wiring

My truck is a '77 F-150 XLT 2wd C6 and a MODIFIED 400. I have seen a few threads with a YELLOW plug under the dash. I read that this was an auxillary switched power source. My question is.... did this plug come with a certain optional package or was it dealer installed. I would like to do this under my dash. Getting older and don't have the mobility that I used to have for crawling around under or over things.

Plug should be on every harness. It was factory.

Yup, should be on every truck. It's located behind the left side of the instrument cluster, behind where the left side A/C vent is located if you have factory A/C.
They use (as I recall) .080" bullet connectors. These are bigger than you can usually find at the parts store but you can find them online without any trouble.

And there can also be one behind your glove box liner (left hand side). Glove box light switch and lamp and the cig lighter get their power from there.

It goes from a single black wire to a yellow 3 hole plug.

Thanks guys. As usual if you have a problem with our trucks ask here. If the question can't be answered... the problem doesn't
exist. Merry Christmas to you all from the old Girl and I up here in Canada.

Just a note...

The hot side of a bullet connector is always female.

I recommend you all apply the same principle if using bullet connectors or any connector where the contact is not protected.

Ya see, an exposed and unplugged male bullet connector, when live, is more likely to come into contact with ground and <<< bzzzzzzt >>> ya pop a fuse.

...and another note, the above referenced circuit is not switched power but hot at all times...just pointing that out since the OP asked about switched power...

I once utilized the plug near the instrument cluster for a switched source and did it with a male bullet terminal made by Dorman. The diameter was 0.176" and accepted 16 or 14 gauge wire. The insulator was dark blue. The Dorman number was 86457. The package quantity was 20. Here is one source:
