How to test backlighting in '96 Ranger XLT Cruise Control switch modules
I just replaced the cruise control switch modules from used parts off E-Bay. The backlighting does not come on, and I can't remember now if it did on the old modules. Is there a schematic available for the modules so I can identify the pins that power the backlighting? Or, do you know how to test the backlghting?

I see you don't have any answers yet, so I'll see if I can get things started. Have a look here for wiring pictorials, just enter your year model particulars. Search Wiring Diagrams
If you have a battery charger, you could use it as a 12 volt test power supply for the back lighting test. Some beginning thoughts for consideration, let us know how it goes.

The airbag came out easily and I found the lights were burned out. I was able to take the switch modules apart and replaced the lamps with LED-resistor units I had left over from replacing some of the instrument panel bulbs with LEDs.
I just removed the LED-resistor units from their plastic holder and soldered them in place with no other modification. Pin 1 on the connectors is ground, so I polarized the LEDs accordingly. Seems to work fine.
Thanks!
