What's it Worth Guys?

Believe me guys I have done my fair share of playing the game with dealers. The dealer I plan to buy from I have bought about 5-6 vehicles from. The sales manager is my neighbor and they make "very little" money of me. They have always been straight with me. I have someone coming today to look at it as a private sale. If I can make some more money off it then I will. I was actually planning to ask $15k for it and see where I land. I just like to see what other areas are getting because with today's technology selling a truck across the country is much easier. I always said if you want a deal on a truck buy from TX and a deal on a motorcycle then buy from FL. It's the whole supply and demand thing. Thank you all for your input it is greatly appreciated. I will let you know what happens. Can't wait to get back into a F150.

If you sell it outright be sure and ask your dealer about a pass thru. Twice, I have ordered a truck and then sold my old one before delivery of the new one. For a 100 buck fee the dealer let me run the sale thru them and I was able to save a bunch in sales tax due to this.

Depends on your state laws. If your state charges sales tax on the amount of a trade (and Tennesee does by the way), then it would matter if you trade. If your state charges sales tax on the amount of the sale, then it wouldn't make any difference. If your state has a sales tax amount cutoff, then that's a third "it depends" category.

I live in TN. 3 times I've had to advise buddies/co-workers about this. They were going to sell a vehicle to friends or family for what the dealer was going to give them on trade. I told them they needed to add the tax to their sell price because if they just used the money for a down payment, they would have to pay tax on that amount vs not paying it on the trade amount. It can add up to a big chunk of money.

It is basically shown as a trade in for the transaction. In my state you pay sales tax on the difference, not the whole thing.
It was about 800 bucks last time and I split it with the buddy that was buying my old truck. He had to be there to do the paperwork.
