I will let you know what happens. Can't wait to get back into a F150.
Hey, good luck man. It sounds like you have it covered. I understand what you mean about the rough ride. Our 350 is a towing machine, but any other time our 150 is the bomb!

If you sell it outright be sure and ask your dealer about a pass thru. Twice, I have ordered a truck and then sold my old one before delivery of the new one. For a 100 buck fee the dealer let me run the sale thru them and I was able to save a bunch in sales tax due to this.

I have never heard of this term. You saved sales tax on the new truck?

Depends on your state laws. If your state charges sales tax on the amount of a trade (and Tennesee does by the way), then it would matter if you trade. If your state charges sales tax on the amount of the sale, then it wouldn't make any difference. If your state has a sales tax amount cutoff, then that's a third "it depends" category.

I have never heard the term "pass thru" but I have made 2 deals (here in Canada) doing exactly the same thing. The buyer was going to pay the sales tax anyway when they registered the car in their name and I got the value of the "pass thru" or trade as they called it here which reduced my overall tax bill. The dealer did not charge anything for doing this ... but that was quite a few years ago now and things may have changed.

I live in TN. 3 times I've had to advise buddies/co-workers about this. They were going to sell a vehicle to friends or family for what the dealer was going to give them on trade. I told them they needed to add the tax to their sell price because if they just used the money for a down payment, they would have to pay tax on that amount vs not paying it on the trade amount. It can add up to a big chunk of money.

It is basically shown as a trade in for the transaction. In my state you pay sales tax on the difference, not the whole thing.

It was about 800 bucks last time and I split it with the buddy that was buying my old truck. He had to be there to do the paperwork.

Truck has been sold for $13k. Had 2 buyers at $15k but the loan value is $11,500 and they had no cash to add. I made a pretty decent profit off the truck for owning it 10 months. Thanks for you help guys.
