Detroit Locker Rear End Swap!

I have a Dana 44 rear end out of a 1978 F250 with a Detroit Locker in it, I love it!
Question, can that rear axel fit in the newer Superduty? say a 2010 F250?
I would assume a new drive shaft but would there be any other issue? The new brakes are disk compared to old drums, but for the locker, I am willing to give up the disks. I know the emergency brakes are probably an issue as well, but who needs them anyways! HAHAHAHHAHA
It is for new hunting rig!

No you don't Ford never put anything that small in an F250. If it is a D44 then it's too small for a modern HD truck.. you'll snap the axles like twigs. If it is an old F250 axle it's a Dana60 but putting that in a modern truck is just asking for trouble, you'll screw up not only the brakes but the engine and trans too because all of that relies on speed input from a rear axle mounted sensor that the old Dana doesn't have. If you want better traction then just buy an aftermarket diff and have it installed in the existing axle, but if you tow heavy on pavement don't put an automatic locker in it.

Thanks for the info, I don't know much about the axles on the newer trucks. I will have to get a new diff locker then for sure.
My f250 1978 long box super cab came with this Dana 44 in it new, It was not a Dana 60 that I was hoping it was when I went to get the locker. it is also a 4.11 gear so that front gear would have had to be changed out anyways. Your right, double the work than just getting a new locker! Thanks again for the heads up!

All my Ford Factory manuals from that era say that the 44 was never used on the rear of a F-250. They did use them on the front however.

The internet indicates that Ford did use Dana 44s on the 1959–1979 1/2 Ton and 3/4 Ton, but only on the front axle. The Dana 60 was placed on the rear axle of the 1955–1985 Ford  3⁄4 Ton pickups.

If this is going to be a daily driver, I'd skip the detroit and go ARB. Daily driving a detroit sucks in my opinion. It can be done, because I did it for 8 years, but ARB is much better.

This is just for our hunting rig, it is actually trailered to the hunting camp. It is in my 1974 Crew cab right now and has worked fine. However the cab is shot on my 74 crew and a bought a 79 crew for the cab, but when I sand blasted it off, it was in bad shape like my other one. Thus the upgrade to a newer SD. I am looking at a 2010 5.4L and a 2006 V10 both SD f350. I was hoping to swap over some parts but it looking like a lost cause. Maybe the winch and bumper! HAHAHAHHAHAH
