I have a 2003 F350 with "Dark Shadow Grey Metallic" paint. My tailgate has a dent and I found a newer style replacement from a 6.7 Superduty on Craigslist. The paint color on the new tailgate is "Sterling Grey Metallic".

They look very similar in pictures. Anyone know how close the colors actually are in person? Would I be able to pull off the Sterling tailgate on my Dark Shadow truck?

Craigslist guy is an hour away so I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to go look in person.

My mom has a sterling gray explorer Sterling gray is lighter and has less metallic I think it would look weird.

 

Yeah, the sterling looks lighter to me. But, close enough until you can get it PTM.

 

Or, fix your dent.

 

Won't match. Sterling Grey is lighter than Dark Shadow Grey.

 

Yeah, how bad is the dent. these dent guys can work magic.

 

I wouldn't care about them being a little different colors if it was cheap, but like others have mentioned, you could probably get your dent fixed cheaper, or at the same price, and have a matching tailgate.
