Abe, here is the back page of the Mercury paint chip page. I assume you are comparing to the U.S. Ford page.
Yes I am. Stu and I are looking for written documentation that Sungate Ivory was the name of the cream colored paint used on the 53 grille as it is for the 54 grille on US built Fords. The Merc page is very similar to the Ford dealer handbook paint chip page. I have a complete 55 handbook. Stu has the complete 54 handbook.
Abe, Vermillion Red and Yosemite Green are listed as colours in my 48-52 books. Coral Red appears to be a new color for 53 replacing Vermillion Red. My 51 Ford was originally Vermillion Red but was restored as Sheridan Blue as Red with black fenders was very common in Canada. My 51 and 52 brochures list the deluxe for Ford and custom cab for Mercury grill color as Argent Silver. My 52 Mercury Handbook lists the grill color for both cab options as Ivory. All original 51 and 52 grills in Canada are Ivory. I believe the brochures were made using U.S. information as the original source. See pic of unrestored 52 Merc Custom Cab (Five Star Extra) grill.
My collection is growing. Does anyone have a pic of the Canadian shop manual for 48 to 52. I have the repop US book from Macs and would like to get an original.
What a find. If you happen to have any info on the correct horn for a 49 M47, I would be very grateful. I have had 3 people tell me that I have the wrong horn. Most of them didn't even know Mercury made trucks, but they are quick to tell me I have the wrong horn.
Dave, I checked my Canadian manuals and I have part numbers for horns of 16832 and 16833. None of my manuals have an illustration showing the horn. I don't have a 48 to 50 to look at the horn. Canadian Ford and Mercury trucks will use the same horn. My 1951 Deluxe Cab has two "trumpet" style horns mounted to the underside of the hood. I am not sure if 48 to 50 use the same style or if the horn mounts vertically near the radiator. Tien.
Tienmac, thanks for checking. Now I have part numbers. I only have a single trumpet. Maybe 2 part #'s mean that I'm supposed to have 2 trumpets??? And quest continues.
Again... Thanks for checking!!
I found this manual through Kijiji in Alberta. Turns out I know the sellers brother in Regina. It's missing the Brakes and Clutch & Transmission booklets. My collection continues to grow.
I picked a 1952 Ford of Canada Sales Handbook and a nicer condition 1953 Ford Mercury Truck Chassis Parts Catalogue.
