Ball joint removal

Do these loosen clockwise or counterclockwise? I don't really wanna order the special wrench.

You will never regret an investment in a ball joint socket...

Why buy when you can go to most large parts stores and borrow a socket?

Most of those style ball joint sockets are sold by application, i.e. '78 Dodge Aspen, etc. Some actually list a size 2 9/64" for most Chrysler cars if I recall correctly. I used to have a MAC Tools biz years ago but my memory is iffy for the most part. Just Google 'ball joint socket' and you should find more than you care to.

jrockdiddy,
Spend the cash for the ball joint socket. It will save a lot of frustration and busted knuckles and strained muscles. I bought the Dodge one for my Dakota IFS. Using it and my son-in-law's impact wrench and air compressor the ball joints came out easily.

Once I found out which one I needed, I did an internet search and found the cheapest one at Northern Tool I paid $33.98 including tax. It is worth it, and as Donald Trump says, "Believe me".

The Dodge size one is 2-9/64" and is easily had at many sources.

I don't know if you have a Mustang II IFS or whose, but find out what special socket you need and then search out the best price.

Your knuckles will appreciate it.

Philip

Autozone will loan the tool to you. Usually there is no fee for the loan just a deposit.
I got a brake line double flaring tool for a $20 deposit. They told me I could keep it if I wanted to, so I did. I thought it was worth $20 to have it.
I would go there and borrow the tool and keep it if you want to.

Well, firestone auto care, and oreillys auto don't have what I need. The ball joint measures 1.9 inches across. I was told they are TCI control arms. I will research more tonight...

So, after 2 minutes of research, I believe 1 59/64 socket is the one I need
