alternator took a dump on me

I changed the alternator about a year ago, suddenly lost the ability to charge my battery,

noticed yesterday the battery meter in my truck only read 8 volts,

so I charged the battery up to 13.5 volts.

started the truck, and pulled the headlight switch, and hooked up my DVOM, and watched the volts go from 13.5 volts back to 8 volts,

left the truck running, and it finally cut off.

took the alternator out , and took it to the place I got it from to have it tested,

with the machine hooked up to the alternator, it cut the machine off!

"the guy" said he had tested numerous alternators and had never seen one just kill the testing machine!

what do you think ? bad luck, bad alternator,

or could I have some sort of short killing the alternator?

I paid $100 for the dang thing, and it took a dump, I'm glad I was just in the driveway when it happened.

You upgrade to the more reliable 3G alternator used on the later trucks.
