flathead V8 block scrapiron?

been looking for a 8BA 239 v8 to rebuild for my 51 F3. just want to get ahead of the game and start putting togehor the parts. A friend gave me an 8BA . Was running good when the key was turned off. Who knows how long ago that was. drained the oil and about half of it was green antifreeze and now its froze up. I expect that other than a few key parts its pretty much scrap iron wouldn't you say or is it worth stripping down to look?

It's always worth a look, you might have a runner. The rods, crank, and cam are probably saveable so you are going to tear it all the way down to get those anyway. Might as well have a look-see.

one other thing. it has a tag on it saying it was bored .060 and rods & mains were ground .020 ea. is that nearing max on boring out cylinders on a flathead?

If it has not been run with the antifreeze in the oil, it may very well be OK. Definitely worth examination. Many blocks will stand bore to .125". The crank can go more.

There's really only one way to get any significant amount of antifreeze in the oil, and that's a cracked water jacket. The block is likely scrap.

The crank has one more cut left, if it needs it.

It's too dang cold to go over to the shop. But I will take some pictures and let you know what's what. I will get to it this weekend but I expect the block is scrap too.. Alot of good parts like carb , air cleaners, hopefully a crank and cam, etc. Thanks guys.
